It looks like Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige might have just spilled some major tea about the upcoming Spider-Man film, and I am here for it.
The Tea Has Been Spilled
During his appearance at BiliBili World in Shanghai, Feige hinted that Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova will be back on the big screen sooner than expected. When discussing the upcoming crossover film Avengers: Doomsday, Feige mentioned that Yelena plays a big part in it, but also dropped a casual "you might see Yelena a little bit sooner in the movies." Given that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the only MCU film scheduled to hit theaters before Avengers: Doomsday, it's not hard to connect the dots - Yelena might just be swinging into Peter Parker's next adventure.
What We Know So Far
Pugh first introduced us to Yelena in 2021's Black Widow, and later reprised the role in Hawkeye and 2025's Thunderbolts. The film concluded with Yelena's team becoming the New Avengers, setting up a major role in Avengers: Doomsday. But before that, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is bringing together an impressive roster, including Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher. The cast also includes returning members Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, as well as newcomers Sadie Sink, Tramell Tillman, Liza Colón-Zayas, Eman Esfandi, and Marvin Jones III. You already know how this ends - with a lot of excitement and probably some major plot twists.
My Two Cents
Honestly, this potential Yelena Belova cameo has me both excited and a little worried. On one hand, Pugh's character brings a lot of depth and complexity to the MCU, and her interactions with Tom Holland's Spider-Man could be really interesting. On the other hand, with the already-packed cast and the need to set up Avengers: Doomsday, I hope the film doesn't feel too crowded or overwhelming. Robert Downey Jr.'s return as Victor Von Doom is also a major highlight, and I love the quote that sold Feige on his latest MCU chapter - "I played the best hero. I can play the best villain." You can catch Spider-Man: Brand New Day exclusively in theaters on July 31, and I'm willing to bet it'll be a wild ride.
The Wait Begins
As we wait for the film's release, we can only speculate about the story details, which Marvel has kept tightly under wraps. But with the annotated script pages revealed by Entertainment Weekly, we do know that Peter Parker is "completely alone" at the start of the film, and that living in the shadows is taking its toll on him. It's not hard to imagine how Yelena Belova's character could fit into this narrative, and I'm eager to see how it all plays out. With the release date just around the corner, it's time to get ready for another Marvel adventure - and hopefully, a few surprises along the way.
